150 000 kvinnor i Sverige kan ha könsstympats

MÅNGKULTUREN. Antalet kvinnor i Sverige som utsatts för könsstympning är mångdubbelt fler än man tidigare trott. En ny sammanställning visar att så många som 150 000 kvinnor kan ha könsstympats.

Tidigare har Socialstyrelsen uppskattat att cirka 38 000 kvinnor i Sverige blivit könsstympade. Men en ny granskning, som inte publicerats ännu, visar att siffran är mångdubbelt högre än så. Uppemot 150 000 kvinnor i Sverige kan ha blivit könsstympade, avslöjar SVT Nyheter.

Med könsstympning menas att en kvinna får delar av sitt underliv bortskuret och hopsytt. Detta kan bland annat orsaka svåra smärtor. Könsstympning är vanligt i länder som Somalia och Etiopien, länder som Sverige tagit emot många invandrare från.
