Kreator är ett tyskt thrash metal-band som bildades 1982 i Essen och räknas till de mest inflytelserika banden inom genren. Tillsammans med Sodom och Destruction formade Kreator den så kallade teutoniska thrashen, som kännetecknas av ett råare, mer aggressivt och mörkare uttryck än den amerikanska motsvarigheten. Bandet slog igenom internationellt under 1980-talet med album som ”Pleasure to Kill”, vars extrema tempo och brutalitet fick stor betydelse även för utvecklingen av death metal.
Under sin långa karriär har Kreator både förfinat och utmanat sitt sound. Efter experimentella år på 1990-talet återvände bandet på 2000-talet till en mer klassisk thrash-stil, men med modern produktion och melodiska inslag. Texter om krig, våld, maktmissbruk och allmänt mörka teman är centrala, ofta ur ett tydligt antiauktoritärt perspektiv. I dag ses Kreator mer eller mindre som ett band bland de stora thrash metal-banden som Metallica, Megadeth och Slayer.
Veckans låt ”Barbarians” kommer från bandets senaste och sextonde album ”Krushers of the World” som släpps idag.
