Nativiteten sjunker i arabvärlden

UTRIKES. Även i arabvärlden har feministiska tendenser slagit rot. Detta har bland annat lett till sänkt nativitet.

Mellan 1975-1980 hade arabiska kvinnor födelsetal på cirka sju barn per kvinna, jämfört med 3,85 barn per kvinna globalt. Idag har bara Egypten, Jemen och Jordanien födelsetal på över tre barn per kvinna.

I flera arabiska länder ligger födelsetalen under ersättningsnivån, som brukar sägas vara 2,1 barn per kvinna.

Enligt en studie från Yales universitet ska skiftande familjestrukturer, ekonomisk tillväxt och preventivmedel ligga bakom förändringen. Familjestrukturen i arabvärlden har delvis ändrats från att handla om storfamiljer till kärnfamiljer där mödrar helt enkelt väljer att investera mer tid och pengar i färre antal barn.
