Trump och Maduro kan tänka sig ett möte

UTRIKES. USA:s president Donald Trump säger sig kunna delta på möte med sin venezuelanska motpart Nicolas Maduro.

USA:s president Donald Trump meddelade i en intervju, i tidningen Axios under helgen, att han kan tänka sig att träffa Venezualas president Nicolas Maduro. Maduro har också sagt sig vara villig att delta i ett sådant möte.

Detta tros vara ett bakslag för utmanaren Juan Guaidó, som av vissa utnämnts till Venezuelas egentlige president. Trump gav i intervjun även uttryck för tvivel kring huruvida det var rätt att ge sitt stöd till Guaidó.

Guaidó har tidigare åtnjutit amerikanskt stöd, och har bland annat talat i USA:s kongress där han fick stora applåder.

Hur detta kommer påverka oppositionen i Venezuela är oklart. Olika oppositionella aktörer har undvikit att kommentera eller nämna Trumps svängning i Venezuelafrågan.
