MUSIK. Denna vecka presenterar Nordfront låten Simple Man med countryartisten Charlie Daniels.

Charlie Daniels började sin karriär inom countrymusiken 1964 när han tillsammans med en vän skrev låten It hurts me som Elvis Presley sedan spelade in. Han spelade även gitarr och bas på tre av Bob Dylans album.

1971 släppte Daniels sitt första soloalbum, Charlie Daniels, och fick sin första stora hit med låten Uneasy rider 1973.

I Charlie Daniels repertoar ingår allt från banjo till fiol, det senare finns på Hank Williams Jr´s album Hank Williams Jr and friends från 1975.

1979 vann han även en Grammy för Best Country Vocal Performance med låten The Devil went down to Georgia, som året efter var med på soundtracket till filmen Urban Cowboy, i vilken Daniels gjorde en skådespelarinsats i. Skådespelarkarriären var inte över där, utan år 2000 var han med i två avsnitt av serien King of the hill från skaparna av Beavis and Butthead och fortsatte med diverse cameo uppdrag och reklamfilmer.

2003 utkom Daniels bok Ain’t No Rag: Freedom, Family, and the Flag där han publicerade ett öppet brev, Open Letter to the Hollywood Bunch, där han försvarade George W Bush’s Irakpolitik.

Titeln på boken är även titeln på en låt med Charlie Daniels Band, som han förbjöds att framföra på en minneskonsert för offren av 11 september 2001. Textraden “This ain’t no rag/it’s a flag/And we don’t wear it on our heads/It’s a symbol of the land where the good guys live” ansågs kunna förolämpa de folkslag som bär vissa huvudbonader. Daniels dök själv aldrig upp på konserten då han tyckte att om hans låt var för kränkande, så skulle även hans närvaro vara det.

Förutom detta blev Daniels invald i Country Music Hall of Fame 2016 och släppte 2018 en bok Let’s All Make the Day Count: The Everyday Wisdom of Charlie Daniels, med dagliga visdomsord och berättelser.

Låten Simple man kom ut 1989 och har lite av en politisk vinkling då den handlar om en hårt arbetande, ”vanlig” amerikansk man som hur hårt han än arbetar, ändå inte får lönen att räcka till samtidigt som politiker och kriminella får göra som de vill och komma undan med det. Han förespråkar hårdare straff för brottslingar, såsom dödsstraff, i det här fallet hängning för våldtäktsmän, langare och barnmisshandlare. Låttexten skapade stora kontroverser när den kom ut och den kan nog än i dag reta upp en och annan snöflinga.
