Allt fler hundar får antidepressiva mediciner

INRIKES. Allt fler hundar får antidepressiva mediciner. Att hjälpa husdjur med hjälp av antidepressiva mediciner har blivit allt vanligare i Sverige. Men huruvida antidepressiva mediciner har en positiv inverkan på hundar är däremot en fråga där många har delade uppfattningar.

I Sverige har det blivit populärare att ge deprimerade hundar antidepressiva mediciner. Metro rapporterar att försäljningen av antidepressiva läkemedel till husdjur har ökat från 450 000 kronor året 2012 till ungefär 800 000 kronor året 2017.

Anya Thörnqvist som är en veterinär och beteenderådgivare i Malmö säger föjande i en intervju med Metro:

— Jag tror att man i dag bryr sig mer om hur djuren mår psykiskt och inte enbart fysiskt. Jag tror också att det inte är lika tabubelagt längre med psykisk ohälsa vare sig det gäller människor eller djur. Det gäller även medicinering.

Även bland människor har användning av antidepressiva medel blivit mer och mer vanligt på senare år. Frågan är om medicinerna verkligen löser de problem som ligger bakom illamåendet eller om det bara dämpar symptomen.
