Part of the intimacy with nature that you acquire, is the sharpening of your senses. Not that your hearing or eyesight become more acute, but you notice things more. In city life you tend to be turned inward, in a way. Your environment is crowded with irrelevant sights and sounds, and you get conditioned to block most of them out of your consciousness. In the woods you get so that your awareness is turned outward, toward your environment, hence you are much more conscious of what goes on around you. For example, you’ll notice inconspicuous things on the ground, such as edible plants or animal tracks. If a human being has passed through and has left even just a small part of a footprint, you’ll probably notice it. Brittiska staten tar i hemlighet skattepengar för att stimulera vapenexport

Storbritanniens regering inrättar en ny fond på en miljard pund (motsvarande drygt 12 miljarder kronor) för att stödja utländska köpare av brittiskt försvars- och säkerhetsmateriel, skriver den brittiska tidningen The Guardian.

Enligt samma tidning har inga politiker debatterat saken offentligt, eller meddelat medborgarna om beslutet, som bara nämns på en enda rad i den senaste budgeten. Pengarna tas från brittiska skattebetalare.

Fredsorganisationen Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) protesterar mot att brittiska skattemedel ska användas för att stödja utländska vapenköp.

— Till och med i kristider visar regeringen att den inte skyr några medel för att sälja så många vapen som möjligt. Vapenaffärerna som kommer att stöttas av de här pengarna kan användas för att möjliggöra grymheter och övergrepp i många år. Regeringen borde begränsa och kontrollera vapenförsäljningen, inte använda offentliga medel och göra vad de kan för att marknadsföra dem, säger Andrew Smith från till CAAT till The Guardian.

Enligt The Guardian är Storbritannien världens näst största vapenexportör. Landets export av försvarsmateriel uppgick under 2018 till motsvarande 172 miljarder kronor.
