Ny Hamas-ledare i Gaza

UTRIKES. Den palestinska motståndsrörelsen Hamas valde under dagen Yahya Sinwar som ny ledare för Gazaremsan. Ett val som bedömare menar tyder på att motståndet mot Israel kommer att radikaliseras.

Valet av Sinwar väntas radikalisera Hamas ytterligare.

Idag valde den palestinska motståndsrörelsen Hamas sin nye ledare i Gaza efter att Ismail Haniyeh avgått. Valet föll på Yahya Sinwar, en av grundarna av Hamas militära gren. Sinwar satt fängslad i Israel i över två decennier efter att ha dömts för mord på palestinier som kollaborerade med Israel. Han släpptes fri år 2011 i samband med en fångutväxling.

Bedömare menar att Hamas i Gaza nu kommer att anta en än mer militär och konfrontativ inställning mot Israel, som sedan 2007 utsatt den lilla landremsan för en blockad.

Den judiska staten Israel har dessutom fört flera krig mot befolkningen på Gazaremsan, senast år 2014. Då dödades nästan 2 200 palestinier, varav över en fjärdedel var barn, medan över 11 000 skadades. Över hälften av dessa var kvinnor, barn och äldre.
