Största utsläppen från svensk konsumtion sker utomlands

MILJÖ. En majoritet av utsläpp av växthusgaser, som kan kopplas till svenskarnas konsumtion, sker utomlands, visar en ny rapport från Naturvårdsverket.

Enligt en ny rapport som beställts av Naturvårdsverket visar det sig att en majoritet, 65 procent, av utsläppen av växthusgaser från svenskarnas konsumtion sker utanför Sverige, bland annat genom avskogning för palmoljeodling.

— De stora koldioxidutsläppen från avskogning som påverkas av svensk konsumtion orsakas framför allt av palmolja från Sydostasien och nötkött som importeras från Latinamerika, främst Brasilien, säger Martin Persson, forskare vid Chalmers tekniska högskola, till Ekot.

Enligt en ny beräkningsmodell som kallas för PRINCE, Policy Relevant Indicators for Consumption and Environment, går det att beräkna kemikalieanvändning och utsläpp i samband med den skogsskövling som konsumtionen i Sverige tydligt bidrar till.

Med hjälp av PRINCE kan man se att nästan 80 procent av alla utsläpp av farliga kemikalier kopplade till svensk konsumtion sker i utlandet. Och över 80 procent av allt färskvatten som krävs för att framställa det vi konsumerar i Sverige förbrukas i andra länder.
