Massinvandring – av amerikansk hummer

EUROPA. Det svenska miljödepartementet lade i fredags fram en begäran till EU om att lista amerikansk hummer som en invasiv art och därmed förbjuda import av levande djur. Miljödepartementet menar att ett större bestånd av amerikansk hummer i svenska vatten skulle kunna utrota den europeiska hummern.

Enligt Miljödepartementet har mer än 30 amerikanska humrar hittats längs Sveriges västkust de senaste åren och de kan bära sjukdomar och parasiter som kan sprida sig till den europeiska hummern och resultera i extremt hög dödlighet.

Om EU:s vetenskapliga forum godkänner Sveriges förfrågan måste ett inkluderande på listan för invasiva arter beaktas av en kommitté bestående av företrädare för EU:s medlemsstater samt Världshandelsorganisationen.
