Turkiet hotar med att ge invällare fri passage till Europa

UTRIKES. Efter att EU-parlamentet röstat för att lägga förhandlingarna om ett turkiskt EU-medlemskap på is hotar nu Turkiet med att säga upp deras flyktingavtal med EU och därvid låta invällare ta sig vidare till Europa obehindrat.

EU-parlamentet har i en omröstning rekommenderat att lägga Turkiets EU-medlemsskapsförhandlingar åt sidan. Följaktligen hotar nu Turkiets president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan med att riva upp det flyktingavtal med EU som medför att landet tar emot migranter som tar sig från Turkiet till Schengenområdet via grekiska Kos men skickas tillbaka av grekiska myndigheter.

Ifall EU fortskrider med planen avser Erdoğan således göra det möjligt för ockupanterna att problemfritt ta sig vidare till europeiska fastlandet. Väl på Kos kan de sätta sig på valfritt flyg till västeuropeiska länder såsom Tyskland eller Sverige, som saknar gränskontroller mot Grekland.

Flyktingavtalet mellan EU och Turkiet som nu kan komma att sägas upp klubbades igenom i mars, i samband med att EU bland annat lovat att avskaffa visumkrav för turkar som vill besöka Schengenområdet i upp till tre månader per halvår, förutsatt att Turkiet uppfyller 72 krav.
